Up, Up and Away

While in Turkey, the husband and tried to take advantage of every opportunity for fun and adventure. For example, we woke up at 4 AM to take a hot air balloon ride over the desolate moonscape of Cappadocia. The baskets were packed tight with chilly tourists. The balloons flew over 2,000 over the rocky terrain. And yet, the ride was still not as scary as the standard Turkish truckstop buffet.

Duh.

(Forgive the crummy resolution and color timing. I took these shots using my digital camera and put it together with MS Movie Magic. Oh, the music is "Dungeoneering" by Tim Hecker. He's awesome!)

Home Sweet Homo.

I've returned from the Twin Cities. The week-long work conference was exceptionally busy. Work, what a drag. Sheesh.

Although most of my time was spent in the conference center, I did get to see a bit of both St. Paul and Minneapolis.

One of my co-workers used to live in the Minneapolis, so he took us on a night tour. Very cool city. Small enough to live in, big enough not to be bored. And it's on the Mississippi--who knew!

I also found a quaint little gay bar near my hotel. That came in handy when the boys from work stood me up one night. That's OK. I know how gay men of a certain age are. I had a Plan B already in mind. (No. Not that Plan B. Gross.)

All in all, it's nice to be back.

Same Same, but Different

GrrrrARggghAhhhhhh!
In August, I was away for a couple of weeks traveling through Cambodia with the husband and one of my friends from highschool. There is too much to say about this excursion right here, right now. The short version: Great food, terrible weather, awesome people, durian stinks, silk is cheap, ruins are big. I'll get around to more detail eventually.

Until then, enjoy the image above: Me, doing my best to make sure Angkor Wat stays a ruin.

Gettin' My Kicks on Route 66

New Mexico: Cleaner Than Regular Mexico

This is my fourth day in Albuquerque. I've spent most of my time either preparing for my work presentations, working on my blogs, researching Web 2.0 websites, and reading. In other words, slowly losing mind.

On the up side, the hotel has a super easy-to-use broadband connection, so I don't have to futz with that at all. My brand spanking new work laptop works like a champ. I found a great online jazz radio station. And we managed to the get the VPN to work after only 5 minutes of trying. In other words, I don't feel completely isolated.
I'm leaving tomorrow after my last presentation. It will be another long day in airports (and the air), but it will be worth it to be home again. I miss Jerry and the cats and the gym and my shredded wheat. In other words, one can only take so much.
